Basic Car Maintenance Tips

Car Maintenance TipsEvery car owner wants their car to last for a long time as much as possible. Aside from that, they want it to stay in shape and would function well. This is not a problem at all for as long as you know how to take good care of your car. These are some basic car maintenance tips:

Auto Maintenance Tips

First — Refer to your manual
Though these are only basic car maintenance, still you have to be sure about what kind of maintenance your car needs.

Second — Rotate your tires
In this way you’ll be able to check your tire pressure thus you’ll be able to save more fuel.

Third — Check your engine, oil and coolant level
This is very important specially in oil; too much oil or too low oil can cause trouble to your engine.

Fourth — Keep your paint in good condition
Be sure to wax it once in while to prevent your car in accumulating a lot of pollution and dust.

Fifth — Check your cars electrical wiring, as well as your battery terminals.
You wouldn’t want to be stranded somewhere in case it malfunction right?

And lastly — Check your lights to prevent accident at night and check if your dash or instrument warning lights are still in good condition

In this way you’ll be able to maintain your car, and you can also prevent yourself from accidents due to car malfunction on the road.

Is Your Car a Mess? Organize Your Car in Five Steps.

This article was originally written by Holly Reich and posted on Edmunds.com

Automotive Maintenance TipsMany Americans spend more time in their cars than in most rooms of their homes, yet they neglect their wheels when it comes to regular “housekeeping.” When it gets really messy, organizing your car can seem as daunting as keeping a closet in order. So we asked California Closet’s organizational expert Ginny Snook Scott how to sort out, size up, store and contain your car cargo in five easy steps. Then we added some ideas for finding the necessary gear to clear out the clutter.

Step one: Sort and clean up

Take everything out of the car, including car seats, music and miscellaneous items stored in the glovebox and door pockets. Don’t forget the trunk and cargo area! Chances are you’ll find all kinds of trash to toss. Organize the rest of the items into three piles: stuff you use all the time, things you use occasionally and items you might need in an emergency. Whatever doesn’t fall into these categories should be stored in your home or garage.

Step two: Analyze

Ask yourself, “How do I use my car?” Are you a salesperson who travels with a trunk load of samples, a parent with two toddlers in car seats or a realtor squiring prospective clients from property to property? Do you make a lot of short trips or are long journeys the norm? What are you always struggling to find? (Pen and paper? Change for the toll? Tissues? Your cell phone?) The answers to these questions should determine your priorities.

Step three: Prioritize

Depending upon your needs, go through your three piles and prioritize the most important items in each group. What do you need to keep close at hand and what can be relegated to the second row or back of the car? Pay attention to duplicates. For example, it’s a good idea to keep drinking water in the car, but not a bunch of half-empty bottles. When you bring three new CDs into the car, take three that you’re tired of back to your house. And just like seasonal clothes in a closet, many items such as ice scrapers and tire chains can be packed away in summer.

Step four: Contain your needs

Loose objects in the car lead to disorganization and mess. In the event of a sudden stop or a crash, they can also damage your car or, worse, injure your occupants. Automotive accessory shops offer a variety of cargo containers and organizers for every part of the car, from leakproof litter bags, CD storage and trunk organizers to drink coolers, folding hangers and kids’ entertainment centers. For the businessperson, the Lewis N Clark “Business Center” holds folders and has a writing surface and detachable portfolio. Talus makes a great line of car organizers, including the CarGanizer and the Kids Car Travel Organizer, which can make a world of difference. Sites for such storage products include AJ PrindleThe Busy WomanFamily on BoardThe Container Store and Amazon.com.

Step five: Store

Store items you use regularly in places where you can reach them. Can’t find a place to store that big box of facial tissue? Try a “tissue cup,” a paper cup that fits into a cupholder and dispenses tissues one at a time. Of course, keep insurance information, maps, directions and other documents together in the glovebox. And be creative about storing lesser-used and seasonal items — there are often nooks and crannies around the spare tire or in the rear walls of the car that can hold a small first-aid kit, roadside flares or jumper cables. Your owner’s manual (now that you can find it) can be helpful in pointing out hooks and cubbies that might have been overlooked.

Finally, don’t put anything on the floor — even trash — unless it’s designed to sit there. Once you start messing up the floor, you’ll find it too easy to keep adding to it, and soon your car will be cluttered again!

4 Tips for Writing SEO-Friendly Blog Posts

This post originally appeared on the American Express OPEN Forum, where Mashable regularly contributes articles about leveraging social media and technology in small business. This post also appeared on Mashable’s website, where we found it and wanted to share the information.

seo 260 4 Tips for Writing SEO Friendly Blog PostsIn addition to writing for their human readers, web writers and bloggers have to consider the digital web crawlers employed by search engines like Google (Google). Your business can’t skip the task.

Since most would-be readers use search engines to find blog posts, you need to make sure that Google ranks your site highly when those readers search for terms related to your business and the content you’re writing.

You could spend thousands of dollars to have a search marketing firm optimize your business’s blog for search engines, but chances are that you can learn a lot of the fundamentals yourself, saving yourself a lot of money as long as you have the interest and the time. Here’s a basic primer on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for your company’s blog.

1. Always Include Search Terms in Your Post’s Title

When Google reads a website to index it, it reads the code directly, not the snazzy presentation that humans see. The way most blogging platforms are built, the headline or title of your blog post is among the first things Google sees, and Google generally assumes the words that appear earliest are the most important. That’s why the title is the most important part of your blog post when it comes to SEO.

Think about who you want to reach with this blog post, and what that person might be searching for when looking for your business’s goods or services, then include critical words from that hypothetical search in the title. The most important terms should appear as quickly as you can reasonably fit them in. Just be careful not to make the title unreadable or awkward to human readers — that SEO effort will have been for naught if the reader is immediately turned off by the content once he or she finds it.

Here’s a pro tip: You’re not likely to win strong ranking for more than one or two search terms at once, so minimalism is a virtue here. Don’t get over-ambitious. Focus on one potential search term, then if you want to rank for a second term, write a separate and unique post specifically with it in mind.

2. Link Important Words to Earlier Blog Posts

Search engines generally assume that a blog post that has been linked to has more authority than one that has not. They also consider exactly what word or phrase linked to the post; a blog post about the iPhone (iPhone) is going to be more likely to show up in Google searches on the subject if another page links the word “iPhone” to the post.

You’ll get the most value from external links from sites that Google or other search engines already consider to be an authority of the subject (if the top blog about iPhones links the word to your post, you’ll get a huge boost), but all incoming links will still pass rank to your page, even those from elsewhere on your site.

So be sure and link important keywords to other pages or previous posts on your blog to gain some credibility and search rank. It will make a big difference. Just don’t overdo it; not only do human readers hate reading blogs so filled with links that they might accidentally click on something, Google may penalize you if you go overboard, too.

3. Hit the Tagging Sweet Spot

Most blogging platforms let you apply tags to your posts. Tags help organize your blog so both humans and search engines can find what they’re looking for. They’re terms like “consulting,” “local” or “technology” that reflect the topics and content of the post.

Google tries to recognize tags and use them to prioritize your site in its search ranking for those terms. The tags are usually links to other pages on your blog (usually a backlog of other posts with the same tag), and like we said earlier, linking search terms to other pages on your site helps too.

So by all means, add pertinent tags to your blog post, but be warned that Google and other search engines are wary of sites that try to game this system. They will penalize you in the search rankings if you use so many tags that the web indexing bots suspect you might be attempting to associate your content with unrelated topics just to score extra traffic.

The method for determining this is arcane, but a good rule of thumb from a pro blogger is that five to 10 appropriate tags are usually right in the sweet spot.

4. Use Google Insights to Find the Best Search Terms

google insights 640 4 Tips for Writing SEO Friendly Blog Posts

You don’t have to play a guessing game about the best tags or search terms to link or put in your post’s title. Since Google is the most popular search engine, it makes sense to focus your efforts there. Whenever you’re not sure which terms to go with, hit up Google Insights, a web-based tool that compares the popularity of any search terms you want to know about.

For example, if your business is a coffee shop but you’re not sure whether would-be customers are more likely to search for “café” or “coffee shop,” Insights can tell you which one is more popular.

These four tips should get you on your way to having a more SEO-friendly corporate blog. Add your tips for search engine optimization in the comments below.

Honda Begins Production of 2011 Odyssey Minivan in Alabama

Honda Begins Production of 2011 Odyssey Minivan in Alabama

Honda marked the start of production of the all-new, Alabama-built 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan today with an end-of-the-line celebration that included participation by more than 1,200 associates at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama (HMA).

The Odyssey minivan has been the top-selling minivan in the U.S. for the past two years and is considered the benchmark vehicle in the minivan class. The completely-redesigned 2011 Honda Odyssey improves on its already award-winning, class-leading design with a more-distinctive style, higher fuel efficiency and greater interior versatility. Improvements to the fourth-generation Odyssey represent a new Honda vision for the “ultimate in family transportation.”

“In about four weeks, our Honda dealers will have this new Odyssey on their showroom floor. But I don’t think it will be there for long,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda Motor Co. “Whether you’re driving in Oregon or Orlando, Milwaukee or Mobile – everyone in this great, glorious nation of ours will know that every ‘American Odyssey’ has its roots right here in Lincoln, Alabama.”

Tuesday’s event at the assembly line celebrated the start of mass production of the new Odyssey, which has received a total makeover for the 2011 model year. HMA is the exclusive global production source of the Odyssey minivan, the Pilot sport utility vehicle and the Ridgeline pickup. The Lincoln plant also shares production of the Accord V-6 Sedan with the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio and builds the V-6 engines that power each model.

“What a beautiful vehicle we have created together,” said Art StCyr, chief engineer for the 2011 Odyssey at Honda R&D in Raymond, Ohio. “It’s called the American Odyssey because – for the first time – the Odyssey minivan was designed, developed, and manufactured in the U.S. What a great sense of pride that brings to all of us.”

The 2011 Odyssey’s more-aerodynamic shape with a lower roofline contributes to class-leading fuel efficiency; yet improved interior packaging maintains similar vertical functionality as the previous model. A wider stance creates a more accommodating interior while accenting the exterior’s dynamic appearance. The 2011 Odyssey will go on sale this fall at Honda dealerships across the U.S.

Also, on Friday, Sept. 3, the $1.4 billion Lincoln plant will mark another milestone with production of the 2 millionth Honda vehicle to be built in Alabama. HMA employs more than 4,000 associates and has the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles and V-6 engines each year.

Galukis’s Carne Molida / Picadillo

Carne Molida / Picadillo (ground beef)

Carne Molida / Picadillo

Ingredients:

  • 1lb. ground beef
  • Black pepper
  • Half of a small yellow onion (chopped finely)
  • Less that half of a green bell pepper (chopped finely
  • 6 cloves of garlic (pounded/mashed)
  • Goya adobo (to taste)
  • 2 packets of Sazon ( 1 regular one and 1 with achiote)
  • 1 spoonful of Recaito ( the frozen goya kind, only add if you want to)
  • ½ of a can of goya tomato sauce
  • Vegetable or corn oil

Directions

1. In a bowl, season the ground beef with Adobo (to taste, make sure it’s salty enough for you), half or more of the pounded garlic (save the rest of the garlic to put in the pan) and add some black pepper. Mix the meat well with your hands.

2. In a skillet heat up some vegetable oil.  When the oil is heated up, not too hot, add the chopped peppers, onions, and the rest of the garlic you left aside. Sofreir until the peppers and onions are a bit tender (make sure the garlic hasn’t burned).

3. Add the meat little by little to the pan and make sure you break up the meat with a fork.  Just keep doing it until you have all the meat in the pan. Let the meat cook for about 15 mins. while you’re breaking it up (just make sure the meat is getting brown and not staying red).

4. Add the packets of the Sazon into the meat and stir in with a spoon. Let the Sazon settle in for a little while.

5. When the meat is cooked, take it out of the pan and into spaghetti colander so that all the oil and fat comes out of it.  Then put the meat back into the same pan you were cooking it in.

6. Add the half can of tomato sauce and stir the meat. Let it cook for a little bit more and then you’re done!
